FFAQ – Freshmen Frequently Asked Questions
Freshman year is full of questions. It’s terrifying yet so exciting to head off to college and be a little fish in a big pond – a new environment, new people and new experiences. Here are some questions freshmen often ask when they arrive on campus:
How can I reduce the cost of my tuition?

First and foremost, students should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The university also allows students under certain strenuous circumstances (i.e. death in the family, unemployment, divorce, etc.) to file an appeal with the school for more money. Point Park offers scholarships to students that are detailed at https://www.pointpark.edu/admissions/financialaid/TypesofFinancialAid/Scholarships/index.

Situated in the heart of downtown, there are Port Authority bus stops on virtually every corner. In addition to the public bus system, students are able to utilize the T. The T is Pittsburgh’s light rail system, and the downtown stops are free to all riders. The inclines can take students to and from the Mount Washington neighborhood to Station Square area. If all else fails, Uber and Lyft are commonly used among students for travel. Students can learn more about PAT transit systems and find schedules on portauthority.org.
Where are student discounts offered?

Students have free admission to the Heinz History Center, Andy Warhol Museum, Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History and Mattress Factory Museum. More questions? Believe it or not, upperclassmen are very friendly and will answer any question about surviving college life – because they’ve been in your shoes not too long ago. Although the years have caused wear and tear on their emotionless face, they’re always able to help those with years of college ahead.
